Our Legacy: Proudly Serving Justice with Integrity and Commitment

“First founded in 1975, the Northwestern District Attorney’s Office has been a constant force in furthering justice, safety, and service in the Northwestern District. The office was conceived with the simple purpose of making certain every person in the District received equal justice under law; since then, the District Attorney’s Office has expanded and grown while continuing to meet the evolving needs of our District, and never compromising our ethical code and mandate for transparency and true community involvement.”
Our Purpose
“The Northwestern DA’s Office is committed to ensuring the rule of law, the protection of all residents’ rights, and the careful and thoughtful prosecution of criminal cases. We believe that justice is best served by a combination of zealous legal advocacy, respectful attention to victims’ needs, and forward-thinking crime prevention efforts. Balance between punishment and rehabilitation ensures a safer, fairer community for all.”
Leadership Empowered in Justice
The office is led by Jessica Landon, District Attorney. Jessica has been a prosecutor for more than 15 years. Highly regarded for her deep commitment to ethical leadership and outside-the-box thinking, DA Landon has pioneered reforms and programs that have become hallmarks of exemplary public service. Under Jessica Landon’s tenure, our office has broadened its focus beyond solely prosecuting criminals to include rehabilitation, education, and community partnerships. DA Landon envisions a legal system that is accessible, fair, and responsive to all citizens.
Comprehensive Services for the People
“The Northwestern District Attorney’s Office provides a variety of services designed to promote, educate, and advocate for our people. We are committed to prosecuting misdemeanors and felonies, working with the juvenile justice system including a strong push for rehabilitation rather than incarceration, and advocating strongly for victims of crimes. Specifically, we provide:
- Free Legal Workshops on a variety of topics from consumer rights to navigating the judicial system
- Victim advocacy and resource networking
- Youth mentorship programs geared at steering our youth toward positive outcomes rather than involvement with crime
- Community outreach programs designed to encourage cooperation and collaboration between law enforcement agencies and citizens
- Free publications and legal articles focused on educating our citizens
All of these services are offered free, which is just one facet that makes this office’s commitment to bringing justice to the people of our district stronger.
Helping Victims, Empowering Residents
“We know that crime does not just affect the victim; it affects families, neighborhoods and the community. That is why victim advocacy is key to our mission. Our team helps victims by providing tailored services that range from crisis assistance and referrals to counseling and various forms of assistance through the legal system. We ensure that victims get connected to local resources, advocates support groups as they cope with their loss so they never have to go through this process alone. Our victim support sessions, community outreach workshops and resource guides are designed to empower residents to know their rights and to become active participants in the criminal justice process.”

Innovative Programs for Safer Communities
Innovation is a key attribute of the Northwestern District Attorney’s Office. Realizing that prevention is as important as prosecution, we have implemented several innovative initiatives under DA Landon’s administration. These include mentorship programs where our attorneys partner with schools and youth groups, restorative justice programs for low-level, first time offenders, and public forums that foster discussion between our police officers and community residents. Our outreach teams serve neighborhoods on a consistent basis, sharing legal information and listening to community members’ concerns. We work on their behalf to make sure that our work meets the needs of the people we serve.

Compliance, ethics, and transparency are core values of public trust. Our office subscribes to the highest ethical standards in all cases and dealings. We are committed to open lines of communication with residents and regularly release updates on significant cases, policy developments, and initiatives aimed at improving safety in our neighborhoods. We utilize public meetings, reliable written reports, and easily accessible educational material to keep our constituents informed and involved. We are always available to answer questions, address concerns, and provide answers for those who seek clarification on the workings of the justice system.
